On October 31, 2024 The Congress and Exhibition Center Parkovy hosted the first international conference "Mykolayiv – the city on the wave," dedicated to the prospects of sustainable recovery and systemic transformation of the city's economy. The event presented a new economic model of the city, based on the principles of blue and green economies, as well as a number of fundamental documents, including the community development strategy and the Master Plan of the city.

The event took place in the Big Exhibition Hall with an area of 2000 square meters. According to the format of the event, a large technologically equipped stage, seating for round tables and an expo zone were placed. A part of the location was separated by soundproof mobile partitions and taken under the catering area, so guests could exchange thoughts while having lunch.
The head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration Vitalii Kim addressed the participants of the conference with a welcoming speech: "Our region should become a driver of the blue economy in Ukraine, and Mykolaiv has all the resources to become a solid basis for this: vast experience, unique expertise and sincere desire for the best. The conference "City on the Wave" will be the event that will unite all these resources and unite around them caring people and organizations to move together to rebuild the city and its further development."

In addition to the presentations, two panel discussions took place within the conference: "Economic recovery of the city through innovation and creative solutions" and "Human-centered approach to the transformation and reconstruction of the city." The experts participating in both panels – among whom were the leaders of the region and the city, representatives of donor states and organizations, businesses and their associations – appealed to their experience and those important principles on which the future restoration and transformation of Mykolaiv should be based.
The conference was organized by Mykolayiv City Council together with the Ukrainian Association of Business Support Centers with the support of the Mykolayiv Regional State Administration. The event was held as part of the Mayors for Economic Growth initiative funded by the European Union and supported by the Innovation Fund 2.0 project funded by the Kingdom of Denmark. Both projects are implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
