From November 8 to 9, the Global Gov Jam 2024 took place in the Parkovy Congress and Exhibition Center. The event was organized by the service design agency Lanka.CX team, with support from UNICEF Ukraine. #GGovJam is a global event that brings participants from around the world together to sharpen their service-design skills.
The event was held in the Big Exhibition Hall. Thanks to the spaciousness of the venue, the organizers were able to rearrange seating according to different activities, implement ideas, and accommodate all participants comfortably. Thus, during the event, part of the location was allocated for roundtables to facilitate networking, and later it was rearranged with desks for the lecture program and practical workshops. Another portion of the space was decorated with banners and bright stands.
The Department of Education and Science was represented at the event by Iryna Senziuk, Head of the Preschool and General Secondary Education Division. More than 100 participants from 17 oblasts of Ukraine formed 13 teams to spend 29 hours creating prototypes of new or improved government services, applying service-design methodologies and a human-centred approach.
The outcome was more than 13 prototypes of new or improved services and, more importantly, a wealth of innovative ideas, knowledge, and genuine practice of new thinking, which enables a different approach to any challenge. Participants gained experience that they must apply and understood that services need to be designed for people and that ideas must be tested before implementation.
The problem addressed by Iryna’s group, named “13 Element,” was how preschool education institutions operate offline in a frontline community of Sumy Oblast (or, more precisely, where working parents can send their preschool-aged children). The team proposed the following solution: a mobile kindergarten based on the Finnish-school methodology with elements of “green classrooms” from the New Ukrainian School (NUS), situated in a safe location. On behalf of her group, Iryna Senziuk presented this project on the event’s main stage. Productive collaboration in a strong team yielded an outstanding result: the “WOW-Jam Solution” award, styled like an Oscar.
#GGovJam is a jam/hackathon designed to teach, through practice, how to create and improve government services using service design. The event is part of a global movement and takes place simultaneously in 120 countries.
Parkovy team thanks the organizers for choosing the complex and is pleased to welcome socially significant, timely, and interactive events. We look forward to future meetings and initiatives!
