“Path Without Obstacles: The Future of Mine Action in Ukraine” Held at Parkovy

On July 2, the Parkovy Congress & Exhibition Center hosted the strategic event “Path Without Obstacles: The Future of Mine Action in Ukraine,” organized by the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change. 

The gathering brought together representatives of the Ukrainian government, international organizations, think tanks, and demining operators. Discussions focused on assessing the current state of Ukraine’s mine-action system and proposals for its further transformation. 

The event took place in the Event Hall.

In her opening remarks, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko outlined the government’s vision for building an effective, transparent, and secure system capable of meeting the challenges posed by large-scale mine contamination. 

Representatives of the Tony Blair Institute presented a study that closely analyzes the sector’s institutional architecture and offers strategic steps for its improvement. 

The study was initiated to support Ukraine in scaling up, accelerating, and increasing the effectiveness of demining to meet the government’s goal of returning 80% of potentially mine-contaminated territories to productive use by 2033.

For the event, the venue was traditionally divided into a conference zone and a networking area on the enclosed terrace. A key element was the panel discussion “Government of Ukraine’s Vision,” moderated by Olena Kryvova (GICHD). Panelists included:

• Ihor Bezkaravainyi — Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine;

• Bohdan Drapiatyi — Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs;

• Ruslan Berehulia — Head of the Secretariat of the National Mine Action Authority;

• Fedir Venislavskyi — Member of Parliament of Ukraine.

During the panel, participants — including Government of Ukraine representatives — discussed the sector’s immediate needs, interagency coordination, innovation, the role of civil society organizations, and ways to enhance transparency and efficiency across the system.
