Demining Ukraine у Parkovy: Дослідження Інституту глобальних змін Тоні Блера

On September 10, the presentation of the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change study on the problem of mined areas was held at Parkovy Congress and Exhibition Center. The presentation "The role and challenges of the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in demining in the context of the implementation of the National Mine Action Strategy until 2033" was also presented at the event.

The event took place in the Small Exhibition Hall. The event was attended by the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko, philanthropist Howard Buffett, international partners, government officials, diplomats, private entrepreneurs and public figures. The presentation with the study "Demining Ukraine: Sustainability, Recovery and Global Food Security" was organized by the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change and the Howard Buffett Foundation.

Key points from the research of the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change:

  • Due to mines and other explosive objects left on Ukrainian territories by Russians, annual losses amount to $11.2 billion, which is equivalent to 5.6% of Ukraine's GDP for 2021.
  • Chernihiv, Sumy, Nikolaev and Kharkov regions lost about 20% of regional GDP during the full-scale war of Russia against Ukraine.
  • About 1 billion people in the world are experiencing food shortages as a result of Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine.
  • At least 400 million people are directly dependent on Ukrainian grain.
  • World food prices increased by at least 20% due to a decrease in the volume of grain supplied by Ukraine.
  • According to the World Bank, almost $35 billion will be needed to mine the entire territory of Ukraine.

"The national legend of Ukraine Howard Buffett, who has already invested more than $100 million in demining the territories of Ukraine, made clear and consistent messages. He called for the preservation of national unity in the struggle for freedom and independence, noting that he does not know a single country that could so heroically and steadfastly resist the evil empire of russia," – said in his post Deputy Minister of internal Affairs of Ukraine Bogdan Drapiatyi.

Parkovy team is grateful to the organizers and participants for holding a powerful and socially significant event.
